Fleeceworks Thursday Morning Feed: WI Puissance

We double dare you to try this at home … ok, maybe not.

The Puissance Wall is always a formidable challenge, ever increasing in height and challenging even the most daring of horse and riders. The Washington International Horse Show recently featured a Puissance class, where riders attempted to clear a brick wall that increased in height with each round.

The eventual winners of this year’s competition were Jos Verlooy and Sunshine, who cleared an astonishing 2.13 meter wall. Pretty impressive. I’m lucky to clear the .13 meter portion of that equation.

If you’re wanting to see more action from Puissance night, you can catch the whole class on demand on the USEF Network here. Just don’t tell your boss we gave you that link!

World Equestrian Brands Helmet Cam: NRHA Futurity

Ever done a run-in at Oklahoma City to the whoops and whistles of the crowd? Me neither, but thanks to this video from Inside Reining, I can vicariously pretend.

The NRHA Futurity just wrapped up in Oklahoma City, showcasing the best in the sport of reining. NRHA professional Craig Schmersal kindly allowed NRHA Inside Reining to strap a GoPro to him for his run in the Finals aboard Cashing Black Chex, where he marked a score of 221 to the obvious joy of the watching crowd.

Ah, reiners… those fans know how to cheer. Keep an eye out for more coverage from the NRHA Futurity here on Horse Nation!

Go reining!

Feel-Good Post of the Day: Man Rescues Foal on Highway

It’s what any of us would do, but it still feels good to see humans doing right by the equines.

The backstory on this amazing little moment is lost to the interwebs, but it will still give you all of the feelings.

At first it looks like all will not end well as the anxious foal careens into the driver’s lane and almost gets hit by the approaching car.  The driver quickly realizes the foal is completely despondent because his mother and the rest of his herd are on the other side of the long highway divider, and decides to do something about it.

The anxious mother can be seen in the background, but she hangs back as the man gently sets the foal down on the right side of the barrier. The driver and his family watch the little stinker reunite with his mother, and all is right with the world again.

Have a warm thought for the good people and lost foals this holiday season, and Go Riding!

Dubarry Tuesday Video: Beach Ride… With Dolphins

If this isn’t on your bucket list yet, it will be after you check out this video.

As if this ride along the beach at dawn doesn’t look serene enough, with the steady swish of quiet waves lapping against the beach punctuated by cadenced hoofbeats, let’s just go ahead and throw some dolphins in there.

Horses Swim With Dolphins#PauseTendresse | PegaseBuzzQuoi de mieux que de nager avec les dauphins ? Se balader à CHEVAL avec les dauphins !!

How cool is that?? I love that the horses, while wary, are pretty accepting of these oceanic visitors, and the dolphins simply cruise alongside for a bit like they’re just swinging by to chat before moving on.

Go riding! (And bonus points if you manage to go ride alongside a dolphin.)
