Thursday Video: Wings of Glory

This art installation from Burning Man 2019 will leave you in awe.

Burning Man is an event that has garnered much attention and notoriety since its inception 33 years ago. What began as a small function organized by two friends has evolved into a massive nine-day event held in the Nevada desert every year toward the end of summer.

Two of the main principles of Burning Man are participation and selfless giving of one’s unique talents — whatever those may be — for the enjoyment of all. Some of the ways that people contribute to the community is by constructing buildings, bringing art cars, providing performances and installing experimental and interactive sculptures, among other media. These contributions are inspired by a theme that is chosen annually by the organizers.

This year’s theme was Metamorphoses, based on the words of Ovid: “Omnia mutantur, nihil interit” (everything changes, nothing perishes).

Fortunately for horse lovers, Adrian Landon, one of the artists at this year’s event, provided this installation, “Wings of Glory:”

If you watch the video the entire way through, not only will you see the beauty of the art, but also you will see how it goes through its own metamorphosis.

Go riding!
