Martha Stewart Gives Two Friesian Rescues a Second Chance
Two rescue horses from Vermont are now settling into their new home with Martha Stewart.
When two Friesian horses named Ulysses and Stewart arrived at the Dorset Equine Rescue in Vermont, their futures were anything but certain. Undernourished, neglected, unsure of their next step—they needed more than a place to stay. They needed someone who believed in healing, in kindness, and in a chance for something better.
That someone turned out to be Martha Stewart.
From Neglect to New Pastures
Ulysses, a three-year-old colt, came into the rescue’s care in 2023, timid, underweight, and slowly learning what trust looks like again. Stewart, 10 years old, had just come from a summer of serious neglect — medical issues, poor nutrition, and dental problems among them. Both horses required careful rehabilitation: specialized diets, veterinary care, dental work, and more than anything else, time. For Ulysses, that meant months of gradual recovery; for Stewart, it meant hospital stays and tender, consistent care.
A New Home: Cantitoe Corners
Earlier this week, the rescue’s journey for these two took a beautiful turn. Martha Stewart adopted Ulysses and Stewart, bringing them to her New York farm, Cantitoe Corners. At their new farm, the pair are settling in — healthy, curious, and free to stretch their legs in large pastures under the care of Stewart’s team.
Ulysses and Stewart are now together, enjoying green pastures, gentle hands, good hay and fresh stories (and maybe a few treats thrown their way). Welcome home, Ulysses & Stewart. May your next chapter be full of long pasture days, quiet moments, and unending kindness.
The Importance of Rescues
Rescues like Dorset Equine Rescue do more than save lives — they restore dignity, trust, and hope. Ulysses and Stewart’s stories remind us what many horse owners know: rehabilitation isn’t just physical. It’s emotional. It’s the gentle hoof-steps in the field, the soft rein and quiet voice, the simple act of letting a horse heal in space and peace.
Martha Stewart’s adoption isn’t just a high-profile headline — it’s a reminder that every horse deserves a chance to thrive, not just endure.
