‘Oh Crap’ Monday: Why Good Ground Matters

Monday already is the crappiest day of the week…

… so it only makes sense that we make things official. Here’s our latest “oh crap” moment.

There’s an old joke that goes something like this:

Q: Why do barrel racers always get cremated?

A: Because the ground’s never good enough.

Even though the joke is poking fun at barrel racers being notorious ground divas, their strong preference for good ground is not unfounded. At its core, it’s a safety concern. Sure, good ground means you can run faster and turn more smoothly, but it also decreases the chances of blowing a tendon or a major crash, like the one seen in this video from Amber Morris, also known as the Misfit Barrel Racer.

Talk about an “oh crap” moment. Thankfully both Amber and Evie were okay, but this definitely highlights the importance of good ground. 😬

Go forth and tackle your Monday, Horse Nation… just remember to tighten your girth.
