Gram of the Day from @howtohorsemom. ・・・ A pain in the ✨⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Back!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Several years ago I hurt my back lifting my Great Dane into the back of an SUV and that pesky injury has come back to haunt me sporadically over the years.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Well, two weeks ago I tweaked it cleaning Panda’s back feet & was pretty useless for a few days. I was feeling MUCH better until last night when I tweaked it again doing the EXACT same thing! Well, unfortunately it’s much worse this time and I am in extreme pain. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ You’d think I’d learn! 🙈⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ When we, as riders, become lame, it makes being a horse girl so hard! Everything becomes difficult! Taking care of horses is so physical and literally takes a lot of heavy lifting. I think that’s why I’m in such bad shape today. I needed to finish up my responsibilities last night, post injury, and I’m paying for it today. I literally can’t even go to the bathroom without tears. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Whenever I’m physically limited it makes me realize how grateful I should be when I can physically ride and care for my horses seamlessly. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We really need to cherish our able bodies, because when we don’t have them, it really is debilitating. Days like today (and realistically, the next few) make me so grateful that I feel good most of the time. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I have to remember to care for myself the way I care for my horses… I need a BOT mesh rug too, STAT! 🤣 #goriding

Gram of the Day from @alternative_horsemanship. ・・・ I meet a lot of folks with dangerous horses who experienced a specific “training program.” While a program may work for one horse, other horses may need things to be adapted in how and what is presented. But “trainers” often look for physical responses to specific tasks and have a pre-set “step 1, 2, 3″ agenda. This causes them to lose perspective as to what is influencing the horse’s thoughts, and not believing his concerns. Often rushing or bullying begins to try to get the horse to comply with the task accomplishment focus. If the trainer continuously increases pressure towards the horse- physically or spatially- eventually they get upset or critical when the horse becomes overwhelmed and physically explodes. I’m 5’2” and there’s no way I can “make” any animal do anything. I often talk about influencing a horse’s thought first, then his movement. This can contribute to the safety of both the human and the horse. If the horse’s brain is already fleeing, defensive, concerned, or fearful, and I ask MORE movement of him, what will his response look like? It is like adding fuel to an already burning fire. Following a “set” program doesn’t allow time for the horse to learn how to think through a scenario, and rarely is acknowledgement offered when he tries. If someone has been taught “it” has to “look” like “x,y & z,” anything less is not accepted by the human. This contributes to the horse “trying” less and looking for ways to avoid any human interaction. I believe horsemanship and the quality of it comes back to the human’s education first. We need to become accountable and aware of our own behavior patterns, thoughts, intentions, slowing down and becoming mentally present, our energy, anticipation, and communication and how that influences our Horsemanship. But when a trainer is offering easy, quick-fix solutions or guaranteed performances, it is often the horse who pays the price. #AlternativeHorsemanship #RemoteHorseCoach #horseblogger #horsetraining #horsebehavior #horses #horsetrainer #horsemanship #pferd #caballo #cavalo #cheval #horsesofinstagram #horselove #horselife #

Gram of the Day from @invaderlala. ・・・ Mette and her Valkyries ❤️⚔️❤️ 1 year ago we had an epic @knightsoficeland event in Massachusetts. It was an especially unique occasion for Carrie, Caeli and myself as it was the first time our mentor and role model from our school in Iceland, Mette Mannseth, rode with us. For those of you that don’t know, I was the first American to graduate from Hólar University in Iceland, Carrie was the 2nd and Caeli the 3rd. Mette coached us all. For me, having Mette as a strong and talented female role model in a male dominated sport was life changing. She pushed me, challenged me and truly inspired me with everything that she taught and showed in her horsemanship. I’m sure Carrie and Caeli feel the same way. It was such an incredible honour to have her ride with us and especially fun to dress her up like the Viking superhero she is. 🦸🏼‍♀️ I don’t know if she realised the impact she had on us 3 girls, but after riding in this show with us and seeing what we are doing here in the States, I think she got an idea 🥰 Thank you, Mette, for all you have done and continue to do. You are one of a kind and we continue to be inspired by you on a daily basis. #knightsoficeland #valkyries #girlpower #warriorwomen #hólaruniversity #goriding #equestriansrock
