How did you start riding?
I started asking my mom for riding lessons when I was four. She told me I had to wait until I was eight. She grew up on a horse farm so she knew the time and cost factor so she had me try every other sport, but it didn’t work. A week before my eighth birthday I asked when I was having a lesson.

What is your favorite thing about riding/or your horse?
My favorite thing is that we have such an amazing bond and work well together.

What would you like to do when you are older?
When I am older I would like to have a boarding and training facility. Chance opened my eyes to how athletic, smart and the all-heart attitude of the Thoroughbred breed. Besides training kids, I would like to get Thoroughbreds off the track and retrain them.

Tell us your favorite quote and why:
“Shoot for the moon; even if you miss you’ll land among the stars” – Les Brown
I love this quote because you should always try your best to achieve your goals. Even if you don’t reach your original goal, you still achieve by trying your best. The goal just might be different than what you originally intended.

What do you think the most important aspects of horsemanship are?
I think the most important aspects of horsemanship are care and time. If you take care of your horse, he will take care of you. Care takes time. It’s important for it not to be just about the ride or the ribbons. To truly have good horsemanship you should have a bond with your horse. I like to spend a lot of time with Chance on the ground just brushing and caring for him. Our bond is amazing since it’s not just about the ride.

What is one thing you would like to tell people about Thoroughbreds or the Thoroughbred Incentive Program?
I would like to tell people that the Thoroughbred is a very athletic, smart and eager to please breed of horse. They are graceful in the dressage and hunter rings, forward thinking in equitation, agile and precise in jumpers and they are all heart and determination on the cross country field. I feel the Thoroughbred breed is the most versatile breed. They are easily adaptable and aim to please.

What are your goals for your horse in 2020?
My goal for this year is to qualify and show at the Marshall and Sterling Finals.
