Product Review: Équilibre Cosmetics Hand Cream

Equestrians are hard on their skin. Équilibre is developing products to help.

As equestrians, our skin takes a beating. The exposure to the dirt, hay, elements and large beasts we have chosen as our passion leaves us with dry, cracked skin that’s begging for some relief.

Fortunately, there are companies such as Équilibre that are developed by riders for riders. I had the pleasure of getting my hands on some Équilibre hand cream, and here is what I found.

I was impressed by the entire package — quite literally. I have to admit, I am a sucker for appealing packaging (I am a marketer’s dream). Équilibre did not disappoint. The simple box in which the product arrives is elegant and appealed to my senses of design and functionality.

These senses were further titillated upon opening the box. The presentment of the hand cream is stunning. It is securely nestled in its outer box and is housed in its own beautifully designed box that depicts appealing equestrian images and lavender, one of the main ingredients of the hand cream. These ingredients were further represented in the box itself as small containers of dried lavender, tara tree fruit and olives are included.

Also included in the box was a small, elegant black and white enamel lapel pin. Although not necessary to the functionality of the hand cream, I would be lying if I said I didn’t appreciate the added feeling of luxury and getting something special.

The hand cream itself is in a simple 2.5-ounce squeeze bottle, which makes for easy application. I have a tendency to get out too much lotion every single time I try to use it. That hasn’t been the case with the Équilibre hand cream. I’m not sure what goes into making lotion bottles, but whatever this company is doing is working well for me.

The consistency of the hand cream is pleasing. It’s thick enough to go on without dripping and it does an excellent job of moisturizing without feeling greasy. As someone who tends to apply her hand cream at stop lights, I appreciate the light non-slippery feel when I retake the wheel (don’t judge — we all have those things we do in the car when no one is looking).

The hand cream absorbs quickly, so I’m not left feeling like I have extra lotion to distribute somewhere other than my hands. I am especially grateful for this now that cooler temperatures have set in and I am wearing long sleeves.

Although there is a faint hint of lavender, Équilibre has a subtle scent that is not overpowering. This is important to me because when I am not applying it in my car, I am usually doing so in a room full of people. This means I don’t want or need everyone around me aware of the smell of my hand cream.

After applying the lotion, my hands were left soft and smooth and I could tell that the lotion was doing its job. Not only does Équilibre hand cream  good to use, but also I can feel good about using it.

Équilibre products are vegan, animal friendly, tested on riders and, best of all, the company gives back to the community. At Horse Nation we love companies that work to do good in the horse world. Équilibre donates a percentage of every sale to equine charities.

According to their website, their goal is “to support different people and charities in every area” they’re present. Some of the charities are small, local initiatives and others are larger foundations. If you’re curious about who they’ve donated to, there is a sticker on the back of every package that lets you know where the donation is going.
