LEXINGTON, KY (Oct. 14, 2019) – Keeneland is partnering with Thoroughbred industry entities to offer 18 scholarships worth a total of $70,000 – more than double the $30,000 offered in previous race meets – to students as part of its College Scholarship Day on Friday, Oct. 18.

Students may pre-register online to be eligible for scholarship drawings by clicking here. One lucky student who pre-registers on Monday, Oct. 14, will win a $2,000 scholarship and an ultimate fan experience. Online registration is available through Thursday, Oct. 17, at 5 p.m. ET.

Keeneland and the Kentucky Thoroughbred Association have collaborated to host College Scholarship Day each race meet since its debut in the fall of 2002. Since then, more than $400,000 in scholarships have been distributed to thousands of full-time college students from Kentucky and beyond.

“College Scholarship Day is one of Keeneland’s most popular events, and with this boost in scholarship money, we look forward to welcoming even more students to enjoy a fun day at the races,” Keeneland President and CEO Bill Thomason said. “We thank our Thoroughbred industry partners for their generosity in helping to make a great day even more special.”

Contributing to the $70,000 in scholarship money to be awarded Friday are:

  • Keeneland and the Kentucky Thoroughbred Association have increased their combined scholarship contribution from $10,000 to $20,000. Drawings for a $2,000 scholarship will be held following each of the day’s 10 races.
  • Once again, two $10,000 Runhappy Scholarships will be awarded. The Runhappy Scholarships, presented by Jim and Linda McIngvale, owners of champion Runhappy, who stands at Claiborne Farm in Paris, Kentucky, have been a College Scholarship Day feature since Keeneland’s 2016 Spring Meet.
  • New this fall, six Thoroughbred industry partners – Claiborne Farm, Glen Hill Farm, Hinkle Farms, Paramount Sales, Solis/Litt Bloodstock and Taylor Made Farm – each will award a $5,000 scholarship for a combined total of $30,000. The scholarships will be coupled with exclusive farm experiences.

Involvement by the six Thoroughbred industry partners was coordinated through the efforts of Amplify, a grassroots program that aims to provide a platform to connect young people enthusiastic about horse racing with careers, resources, mentors and opportunities within it.

In addition to the scholarships, College Day will feature more than 25 additional prizes, highlighted by tickets to see country music singer Chris Young, a Griffin Gate golf package and an Airbnb travel package.

Admission on Friday is free with a college ID. The first 2,000 students to check in at Keeneland on College Day at the College Zone on the North Terrace will receive a Southern Proper College Scholarship Day T-shirt or aluminum water bottle courtesy of Coke. Students also will enjoy music, free snacks and the new Drake’s Betting in the College Zone.
