Standing Ovation by Ovation Riding: Horses and Humans Research Foundation

Every Friday, Horse Nation teams up with Ovation Riding to spotlight an individual or organization doing good work in the horse world. Today we recognize the Horses and Humans Research Foundation and its first ever Founder’s Giving Day.

The Horses and Humans Research Foundation (HHRF) will be kicking off its first ever Founder’s Giving Day on October 17, 2019.

The primary goal of the day of giving is to raise funds in support of the HHRF’s mission of supporting research in the field of Equine Assisted Activities and Therapies. However, the HHRF also wants to recognize those who have worked to get the organization off the ground and steer it in the direction it has taken. The date itself was chosen in order honor the founder of HHRF, Molly Sweeney, whose birthday is October 17th.

Evelyn McKelvie, HHRF Board Vice-President and Chair of the Development Committee, says, “It is an honor to work with such a talented and dedicated group of volunteers who are committed to expanding the research into the horse-human connection. When Molly Sweeney founded HHRF there was almost nothing known from a scientific perspective about the beneficial effects that horses have on humans.”

“Thanks to the vision of Molly and her herd of like-minded caring and generous individuals, research and knowledge into these important therapeutic activities has increased dramatically in the last decade. There is so much more to know and understand and building on our success will add great value to the programs that are helping increasing numbers of people to recover physically, emotionally, and spiritually from a wide range of illnesses and disabilities,” McKelvie added.

The HHRF Board has set a goal to raise $10,000 in gifts and 100 donors in celebration of this day.
