Thursday Video: The Git Up Challenge

Representatives from the Pennsylvania horse racing industry are getting down in the Git Up Challenge.

Blanco Brown’s song “The Git Up” has inspired the latest viral dance craze. Like its predecessors  — the “Time Warp,” “Macarana,” “Gangnam Style,” the “Electric Slide” and “Dougie,” to name a few — it gives listeners step-by-step instructions to follow. From the two step, cowboy boogie and butterfly to grabbing “your sweetheart” for a quick spin, the song instructs its listeners to do a number of fun, silly and thoroughly YouTube-able dance moves.

The song has also inspired the Git Up Challenge, which challenges people to post videos of themselves doing the dance. The challenge has taken off.

Police officers are doing it. Nurses are doing it. Dads with their daughters are doing it. And now the Pennsylvania horse racing industry is doing it.

As a way to highlight the numerous jobs and people who work behind the scenes in the racing industry, a group of jockeys, drivers, trainers, announcers, grooms and office staff from six Pennsylvania tracks, the Pennsylvania Horse Breeders Association and the Pennsylvania Horse Racing Association have decided to join the Git Up Challenge.

The racetracks represented in the video include the Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono, the Meadows Racetrack & Casino, Parx Racing at Parx Casino, Harrah’s Philadelphia Casino & Racetrack, Penn National Race Course and Presque Isle Downs & Casino.

We hope you enjoyed seeing the more light-hearted side of racing. Go riding!
