7 Things Our Horses Do That Will Never Not Be Adorable To Equestrians

I am a grown woman and I still squeal like a toddler every time one of my horses does one of these arbitrary horse things.

Ah, horses: you may be well over a thousand pounds and possess the ability to break our bones in a single swift movement, but we will never stop giggling like children when you do something cute. And by “something cute” we mean a totally routine horse thing that you do pretty much every day. Considering that all of these images are from my personal Instagram account, you can imagine how I get through my horse day.

Basically, we all grin ear to ear every time our horses…

1. …yawn.

That full-body experience, when the head dips and then the neck extends to its longest reach as the horse opens his jaws to the heavens and looks like he might be laughing. So cute!

2. …snort.

Why yes, they may just be clearing their nostrils of dust… but OMG it’s just like when horses snort and sneeze in the movies! Super adorbs.

3. …invade our personal space for a cookie.

Is this disrespectful? Yes, perhaps. Is it probably a bad habit to encourage? Most likely. Is it nevertheless kind of fun to encourage even when your inner Pony Clubber screams that it’s a bad idea down the road? YUP.

4. …roll.

Oh, do you have a widdle itchy spot? Did you get it? Can you go all the way over? Come on… come on buddy, you can do it! Oh, so close… try it again, you can — OH GOOD BOY YOU MADE IT ALL THE WAY OVER!

5. …greet other animals and/or small children.

*heart explodes*

5. …squeal and kick up their heels when we turn them out.

They can be as naughty as they want, this will never, ever get old to see. If they do the wild-stallion-of-the-west thing and rear a little you can’t help but sigh out loud. So majestic. So adorable.

6. …sleep.

Quite possibly one of the most natural processes of living beings… but LOOKIT HOW CUTE YOU ARE with your eyes shut. Bonus points if you catch them all curled up on the ground snoozing away.

7. …make that flehmen face.

Raise your hand if you also make the flehmen face whenever you feed your horse something new. And then feed it to them again… and again… and again.

Okay, Horse Nation, your turn to weigh in — what totally-routine horse thing makes you giggle, squeal or sigh with love? Shout out in the comments — and go riding!
