‘Oh Crap’ Moment of the Day: Defying gravity at Burghley

Burghley Horse Trials kicks off today in Britain–let’s celebrate by revisiting one of the greatest Burghley saves of all time!

The rider is New Zealand’s Andrew Nicholson, a six-time Olympian and World Equestrian Games team gold medalist who has won Burghley a whopping three times. (Kate Samuels sings his praises in an Eventing Nation article here.) He is riding Mr. Smiffy, and the year is 2000.

He is known as “Mr. Stickability,” and after you watch this video you’ll understand why!

But wait, there’s more: He went on to win the event!!!

Unbelievable.

We wish Andrew all the best at this year’s Burghley–he’s riding four different horses, no big deal. Stay up to date on all the latest Burghley news throughout the week at Eventing Nation.

Go Riding.
