‘Oh Crap’ Monday: Sometimes You’re the Windshield…

Sometimes you’re the bug.

Sometimes it all comes together, baby…

And sometimes what started as a fun play-day show with friends ends with a trip to the ER. Horses, am I right?

Monday already is the crappiest day of the week, so it only makes sense that we make things official. Here’s our latest “oh crap” moment.

The rider went in on full-send, thinking it’s just a raised cavaletti.

The horse said, “I have absolutely no idea what that is. And it’s in a shadow.”
The rider said, “We’ve got this.”
The horse said, “Like hell we do!”

This small cavaletti and patch of shade was less play day chic and more human lawn dart.

The good news? Both horse and rider are okay. The rider earned a trip to the hospital for a few CT scans, some stitches, and a story that will undoubtedly get funnier every time it’s told. Even better, he was back in the saddle the very next weekend, proving that horse people have a remarkable ability to shrug off injuries that would convince most of the population to take up knitting instead.

Moral of the story: never underestimate the terrifying power of a suspicious shadow… or the determination of an equestrian with a freshly repaired forehead.

Thanks to Sylvio Pellegrino of Pellegrino Pastures for his good humor and willingness to let us share this video to laugh at his expense commiserate.

Go forth and tackle your Monday, Horse Nation.
