‘Oh Crap’ Monday: Going for a Spin

Monday already is the crappiest day of the week, so it only makes sense that we make things official. Here’s our latest “oh crap” moment.

Monday already has a way of humbling us. But every now and then, the universe decides we need a full-blown demonstration.

For today’s “oh crap” moment, someone is generously handed over the reins of a bona fide performance. A reiner. The kind with buttons. The kind with athletic opinions. The kind that can spin so fast your internal organs briefly reconsider their alignment.

And because confidence is a powerful (and sometimes misleading) thing, the rider gives that cue that says, “Let’s see what you’ve got.” And the horse us know…

Oh, he’s got it.

What follows is a textbook reining spin:

  • Back end planted.
  • Front end whirring like a ceiling fan on high.
  • Dirt flying.
  • Rider realizing, mid-rotation, that this might not have been one of her better choices.

There’s a moment where physics and pride part ways. The spin keeps spinning. The rider… does not.

And just like that:
Performance horse: still perfectly balanced.
Rider: acquainted with gravity.

To be fair, sitting a true reining spin is no joke. These horses are trained to stay low, pivot hard, and move fast.

This isn’t your lesson horse’s polite little change of direction. This is years of training, muscle memory, and precision compressed into about 2.3 seconds of “hold my drink.”

The real lesson here?

Performance horses don’t come with a warning label…

But maybe they should:

⚠️ Caution: Buttons may be operational. Ego may not be.
