SmartPak Monday Morning Feed: DIY No-Bake Maple Banana Oat Horse Treats

It’s time for another SmartPak recipe because our horses deserve some holiday treats, too! Here is a simple no-bake horse treat you can make at home. Your horses will thank you!

Winter and the holiday season are here. How did that happen?! When I think of the holidays, I think of spending time with family (furry and not) and lots of sweet treats.

Of course, I couldn’t and wouldn’t leave out my horse children from the festive fun, so I decided to create a no bake horse treat for them! I love creating recipes and chose to create one with maple syrup as a inspiration. When I think of maple syrup, I think of bananas foster for some reason, so I present to you my horsey-approved rendition of bananas foster (alcohol-free, of course).

Supplies:

  • Mixing Bowl
  • Rubber Spatula
  • Measuring Cups
  • Measuring Spoons
  • Cutting Board & Knife
  • Small Cookie Scoop (optional)

Ingredients:

  • 1 Cup Old Fashion Oat
  • 1 Cup Dried Baby Bananas, Chopped
  • ¼ Cup Chia Seeds
  • 2 TBSP Coconut Oil (melted)
  • 3 TBSP Pure Maple Syrup

Instructions:

I LOVE this recipe because it’s super easy to make and doesn’t require a lot of fancy kitchen equipment. If your horse likes bananas, they will love these!

1. First start by chopping your baby bananas if your local grocery store does not offer these you could always chop banana chips (try to look for no added sugar banana chips) or apples would even work great for this recipe.

2. Then you’ll want to melt the coconut oil so that you can measure it out. (I heat it in microwave for 15 seconds at a time and stir in between until it’s closer to a batter or even a true oil-like consistency).

3. After that all you have to do is combine all the ingredients in a mixing bowl and fold them together! (For any Schitt’s Creek fans or any new bakers out there, “folding” can be done by scraping a rubber spatula towards you along the bottom of your bowl, continue scraping up the side and gently flip the spatula to layer the mixture over the top of itself.)

4. Finally, you’ll want to use a small cookie scoop, spoons, or clean hands to portion out small amounts of the mixture to then form into balls. Depending on the size of the treats that you form with determine the amount this recipe yields, I got 12 treats total.

5. Once all the treats are formed place them in a Tupperware container and place them in the fridge. Since the coconut oil is melted when mixing the mixture, the refrigerator will allow the treats to set and not fall apart. Once the treats are set up (should only take 30 minutes to an hour) you’re ready to start sharing with your furry friend!

I hope your horses enjoy these as much as mind did and Happy Holidays!
