I Let You Go

I let you go
I spent the day grooming your beautiful mane
I told you how beautiful you are
No one could tell me different
The spray was never your favorite
But the smell of showsheen will stay with me

I let you go
I braided flowers in your mane
I told you how you were the best
No one could tell me different
I sang to you
We were both young
I a little girl you a little unicorn

I let you go
I fed you treat after treat
An indulgence we could not have before
Your breath became sweet with molasses and carrots
The sound of the wrapper will stay with me

I let you go
As you lay for the last time
I told you I was there
So that you would know my love was for you
As the breath left you I gave mine to say goodbye
So that you would know that while we parted here
You and I will always be that little girl singing and braiding flowers in your mane
And you a little unicorn with sweetness in your breath

Rossy Jaquay wrote this poem for Priscilla, reporting it was her time to go and she was still happy in the end.
