Standing Ovation by Ovation Riding: ASPCA

Every Friday, Horse Nation teams up with Ovation Riding to spotlight an individual or organization doing good work in the horse world. Today, we recognize ASPCA and its dedication to rehabilitating and retraining retired racehorses.

Through its ASPCA Rescuing Racers Initiative, the ASPCA has granted $250,500 to 12 different equine rescue groups. Each recipient was awarded between $5,000 and $50,000 in order to assist them in their efforts to rehabilitate, retrain, and rehome retired racehorses.

The ASPCA Rescuing Racers Initiative was launched in 2010 and has awarded more than $2 million to prepare horses for new homes and second careers once they’ve retired from racing.

“While their racing careers may have ended, these retirees still have much to offer,” said  Dr. Emily Weiss, Vice President of Equine Welfare for the ASPCA.
