Texas Flooding: How You Can Help

The recent flooding along the Guadalupe River in central Texas has torn through communities, leaving heartbreak in its wake.

At least 104 people are dead across six counties. In Kerr County, officials reported 84 deaths — those of 56 adults and 28 children. Though the likelihood of finding survivors grows slimmer four days out from the devastating flood, rescue crews continue to comb through the region, searching for survivors. Over 400+ responders from 20+ agencies, supported by helicopters, boats, K9 teams, and federal assets, have rescued over 800 people so far and are racing to locate missing persons. At least 41 people remain unaccounted for statewide.

Two equine organizations searching are the United Cajun Navy and Mission Mules. Here’s who they are, what they do, and how you can help.

The United Cajun Navy is a volunteer-based rescue organization founded after Hurricane Katrina. Comprised mainly of everyday people with boats, it has grown into a nationwide network of volunteers who come together in times of disaster, offering hands-on help in the form of rescue missions, delivering supplies, and providing relief to those in need. Whether it’s floods, hurricanes, or other natural disasters, the United Cajun Navy has become a symbol of selfless service, unity, and the power of communities pulling together in the face of adversity. Their motto: “We don’t wait for the cavalry, we are the cavalry.”

Mission Mules is a volunteer-based nonprofit organization dedicated to providing disaster relief in remote and hard-to-reach areas. Specializing in the use of mules and pack animals, they transport essential supplies — such as food, water, medical aid, and equipment—into regions where traditional vehicles can’t go.
