Today’s honoree: Idaho Horse Therapy’s Re-Boot Camp.
Every Friday, Horse Nation teams up with Ovation Riding to spotlight an individual or organization doing good work in the horse world. Today, we recognize Idaho Horse Therapy’s Re-Boot Camp, dedication to helping military veterans suffering from PTSD.
The mission: To improve the lives of veterans and their families by providing them with new skills and proven treatments to address post-traumatic and re-entry stress—at no cost to veterans or their families.
Who: Intended for anyone suffering from PTSD and related conditions, but particularly including veterans
Where: Fairfield, Idaho
What: An immersive week-long experience focusing on equine-assisted psychotherapy. Participants lodge at the facility, eat meals as a group and work with EAGALA-certified instructors and horses in multiple sessions throughout the week. Other therapies are also available, including brainwave optimization, Community Resiliency Model, eve movement desensitization and reprocessing, and more.
How it works: Equine-assisted psychotherapy takes place on the ground and allows humans and horses to interact on an equal footing rather than under saddle. No horse experience is required by participants prior to a session. As described by EAGALA, equine-assisted psychotherapy gives participants “space to project and analyze their situations, make connections, and find their own solutions”
To support: The services of Re-Boot Camp are provided at no cost to the participant. Re-Boot Camp operates entirely by donations.
