Indoor season is upon us… and that means that the total insanity that is FEI World Cup Driving is back, with the king of the ring Boyd Exell capturing the first win of the season. Watch the performance here!

Why FEI World Cup Driving hasn’t yet caught on as a major-league televised sport around the world, I still don’t know. It has everything that gets people pumped up: blasting techno music, audience clapping in sync, an indoor water feature and an enthusiastic announcer. (Seriously, when was the last time you heard “I Like To Move It” in a non-ironic fashion?)

The reigning king of this wild indoor world is indisputably Australia’s Boyd Exell, who debuted a new pair of leaders at the first leg of the FEI World Cup Driving series in Stuttgart, Germany and nabbed the first win of the season. Boyd and his excellent team — including not just the four-in-hand but his navigators as well, who were leaning and hanging on for dear life to help keep the carriage exactly where it needed to go — weren’t foot-perfect, but fast enough to overcome their penalty.

The fact that everyone is totally spattered in mud at the end of this drive-off round should give you an indicator of just how wild indoor driving can be — they look like they were out in the hunt field all day, not cutting circles in an indoor facility.
