Fantasy Farm Thursday: $85 Million Worth of Architectural and Equine Bliss

Don’t you go scrolling on by. Your daydreams need this.

If I had $85 million to build myself a thing, I don’t know that I could begin to imagine how to spend it, but I am absolutely positive of two things: 1) I could not do any better than this, and 2) I would definitely put a pool in my living room and a barn made out of redwood trees.

Welcome to Del Dios Ranch, a spectacular luxury thing of magic and charm in Rancho Santa Fe, California. Set on 210 acres of prime Southern California real estate, I’ve determined that this must be where good horsemen who never forced their horse’s headset with draw reins go to Heaven. There are 40 acres of valencia orange groves, a barn with every magnificent trimming you could invent for such a thing, and a 1970’s rancho estate so pretty that your eyes can catch on fire staring at it too long.

The home was designed by famed architect Fred Briggs and took three years to build. It’s all stunning redwood, glass, and thoughtfully modern concrete that couldn’t be more seventies or more spectacular. And I don’t mean disco polyester 1970s. I mean Farrah Fawcett in her feathered-hair prime, Eagles laying down Hotel California, Oakland A’s winning the World Series – THAT 1970s. It’s literally everything good about the era in a single space. (and obviously magnificently modernized and updated for life in 2017.)

As for the horse facilities, the barn is pure magic and the turnout everything you’d ever want for your equine BFFs. There doesn’t appear to be an arena at the moment, but hey, you’re a gajillionaire. You can probably whip one up. Trails abound, however, and the equestrian community is prime in Rancho Santa Fe.
