Standing Ovation by Ovation Riding

This week’s honoree: S&S Finally Loved Horse Rescue.

Every Friday, Horse Nation teams up with Ovation Riding to spotlight an individual or organization doing good work in the horse world. Today, we’re recognizing S&S Finally Loved Horse Rescue, located in Calimesa, California. We spoke with co-founder Sherri Morris to learn more.

What’s your mission statement and charity status?

We Rescue, Rehabilitate and Rehome horses who have come from neglected and abused homes. We strive to raise community awareness thru community education and resources.

We are a 501(c)3 tax exempt rescue.

How did S&S Finally Loved Horse Rescue get started?

Sandy and I met because my own horses kept getting out of their pasture onto our main road where she would find them. She came to my door to let me know once again my horses were out and she rescued them. We became fast friends and decided to rescue together. That is the jest of it. So here we are today and we run our little rescue happily.

Where do your horses come from?

Owner surrenders, animal shelters and auction.

How are you funded?

We are self funded at the moment, we receive money from one of our sponsors (Trish Harwood) who is also a volunteer with us. We do fundraisers at a local restaurant and sell tack that is donated to us. We also keep a Paypal account at [email protected] and we are on Amazon Smile Prime.

What is your adoption policy?

We have an application that must be filled out with references that we call. We require they have a vet and farrier that they know. We do home checks and advise if changes are necessary.

What’s one thing you wish people knew about the work you’re doing?

That there truly is a need for educating prospective adopters and horse owners as to the amount of work, feed, time and money involved in the ownership of a horse.

Why do we do this? We love the horses: seeing them go from broken and sad to happy and fat, the lives that have been saved. Nothing feels better! Our sponsors, volunteers, donors and fosters keep us going!
