Fantasy Farm Thursday: Not Exactly A Stocking Stuffer

This 46-acre estate 30 minutes outside of Manhattan probably won’t fit under the tree, either. But I think she’d let that slide.

Pools, basketball courts, soccer fields, grandiose horse amenities, and wine. Lots and lots of wine. I think we’re in for a good fantasy on this one, folks. And just in time to get it on your Holiday Wish List! Happy Hanukkah indeed.

Set on the outskirts of the bucolic and aptly named Mahwah, New Jersey, this incredible property which spared no expense — on literally anything — is just one little New Jersey Turnpike away from the greatest city in the world. I say aptly named, because “Mahwah” is the sound you make when you see it. Here, watch:

MahWAHHHHHHHHHHH!!! See? I told you.

The Land

Despite being a vast estate (especially that close to the city), River Oak Farm is thoughtfully laid out and curated to be a well-manicured gem with just the right amount of surrounding trees to feel secluded, but enough open grazing to let you see your estate and give the horses more grazing than they could ever want. There are also miles of trails for hoof, shoe, or tire that venture into the surrounding greenery.

Moreover, there’s more to the landscape than turnout and trees; the farm also includes a full size basketball court and practice soccer field, as well as a wide array of swimming pools and spas. (We’ll get to the pools, don’t worry. There’s a separate “Mahwah” for that.)

The Horse Amenities

The barn is as nice of a barn as you could ever dream for your favorite four-leggeds. Every equine lives in absolute luxury with wide deep stalls, safe and elegant stall fronts, and all the ventilation, sunshine, and state-of-the-art amenities you could ever want in a barn. The indoor arena is fully insulated with pristine sand composite footing for year-round riding bliss. For your hardworking employees, a carriage house adjacent to the barn will keep them living in fine style, as well.

Now, in dreadful chorus, let’s all say it together, “MAHWAHHHH”:

The Water

In addition to sitting peacefully along the Ramapo River, the property still has some H20 of its own to add to the mix. There are exactly four beautiful pools — both indoor and out — available for a few laps, a good soak, or a weightless overlook. The indoor pool will keep you pruney and warm in the winter months, and the two outdoor spas will be a treat year round (you need two because one is for regular people, and the other is a private spa for the master suite. I KNOW.) You might only get use out of the outdoor infinity pool in the summer and early fall, but you know, I wouldn’t complain. Especially not when you can enjoy it as you overlook your favorite steeds grazing in the fields below.

The Residence

Home sweet home. It’s got all the little things you need to unwind from a hard day at work or following an especially intense dressage lesson with Isabel Werth (I’m just going to assume that if you live here, you can probably afford your own private German gold medalist to lay into you for a little dressage boot camp now and again.) Where was I? Oh, the house. Those little things that make a house a home: a nice living room, a few bedrooms, your own English Pub, a banquet hall, a private theater, a gym, and of course a wine cellar. (But wait, none of my reserve label $8 box wine will fit in these round holders?)

The listing literally says there are too many details about the house to list, but just assume that it’s all really terrific, state of the art, and infinitely perfect. And sure to make you Mahwah.
