The superstar mare of Australia, Winx, absolutely smashed the field in Saturday’s Cox Plate: don’t miss her lightning-fast sweep to the lead!
I’ll admit that generally it seems that we don’t hear much about Australia’s great racehorses — barring a few notable household names, such as Phar Lap or Black Caviar — and that’s really a shame, because there are some wonderfully talented animals down under who are more than worthy of our attention overseas.
One such horse is Winx, now being hailed perhaps as one of the greatest racing mares of all time. Many of her fans are expecting to see her listed as the new world number one Thoroughbred in the next update of the Longines global rankings, and it’s thanks to a mind-blowing victory in Australia’s Cox Plate on Saturday, October 22.
Watch Winx come from the middle of the pack to absolute run away with the victory:
Winx conquered noted rival and great stakes horse Hartnell as well as French-bred Vadamos.
This victory in the Cox Plate was Winx’s second win of the Grade I stakes, and her thirteenth win in a row. A daughter of Street Cry, Winx was ridden by Hugh Bowman and trained by Chris Waller. Waller looks ahead to the mare’s career next year as a six-year-old and announced that Winx would receive the rest of this year off to recuperate and come back ready and fighting fit in 2017.
Go Australian racing, and go riding!
