Tuesday Video: Chincoteague Ponies Wait Out Hermine

These free-roaming ponies employ a tactic as old as time: gather up with your friends and wait it out.

Hurricane Hermine trashed a lot of folks’ Labor Day weekends, especially in Florida where damages to communities and properties were severe. As Hermine worked her up the coast, surf grew stronger and storm surge and beach erosion proved to be problematic, especially on coastal islands.

One island’s famous residents — the Chincoteague ponies — handled the arrival of Hermine as good as, if not better than, anyone else whose Labor Day plans got a little soggy: they gathered up some friends, turned their tail into the wind, and waited it out!

Though just a brief video, it’s a great reminder that animals have the tools to weather almost any storm!

Our thoughts are with those affected by Hermine and we send our best wishes for a safe recovery.

Go riding!
