The arid landscape of the Australian outback reminds us that this can be a challenging place to be a horse — yet this small band seems to be thriving. Presumably, these are brumbies, the Australian counterpart to the American mustang, descended from domesticated horses who escaped or were set loose from early settlers to the continent.
