Thursday Morning Feed from Fleeceworks: Mary Becomes a Horse Trainer

The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Michigan made this little girl’s dream come true with a perfect week in Kentucky. Get the tissues out!

The Make-A-Wish Foundation acts as a real-life fairy godmother to children all over the country who are diagnosed with life-threatening illnesses. Sometimes those wishes are to travel to certain cherished places; other times children wish to experience a career that they aspire to someday. For Mary, who suffers from mucolipidosis and can’t always stand or walk straight, the foundation granted her wish to become a horse trainer and sent her to Kentucky with her family for a week. There, Mary toured the backside of Churchill Downs and Keeneland, toured the Kentucky Horse Park, observed recovering horses and foals at Hagyard and met famous jockeys and riders of all levels.

Mary states, “I didn’t have a favorite part. It was everything.” Kudos to the Make-A-Wish Foundation for granting Mary’s wish and creating the perfect, unforgettable week for a young equestrian.
