Jockey Moons Field, Crowd at Canterbury, Australia

This takes wardrobe malfunctions to a new level.

If most people suffered a wardrobe malfunction this publicly, most of them would probably make an effort to cover themselves up as soon as possible. Unless, of course, you’re a jockey, and you’re driving for that finish wire just a nose behind. While riding a race at Canterbury track in Australia a few weeks ago, Blake Shinn didn’t really have much of an option to cover himself up with a race on the line:

Whoops. I’ll refrain from making any jokes about coming up from behind, a jockey lacking his Jockeys, or full moons down under. I would like to point out, however, that the third-place horse finishing just behind Shinn is named, of all things, Modesty.

In an interview with the Sydney Morning Herald, Shinn stated: “They [the pants] went just after the start and there was nothing I could do. I think a lot of people are going to have a bit of fun with this, but they can’t say I wasn’t focused and went to the line.”

Well, he was right on two accounts: we agree that this jockey deserves credit for his professionalism in an extraordinarily embarrassing situation, and we’re also enjoying all the fun.

Go riding! (And don’t forget your belt.)
