Back on Track ‘Horse Therapy’: Jenilee & Post

After the loss of her son, Jenilee Holliday found solace in a special mare.

Three years ago we lost our son after fighting for his life for two months in the NICU. I was devastated and heart broken. I didn’t know how to go on with life.

My mare was there for me. She let me cry in her mane. She would lay with with me for hours letting me just lay on her. We would go for rides without a purpose, and it was like she knew I just needed to escape life.

For months I just felt like my life was standing still while the world moved on, but for some reason I felt like Post stayed in my bubble of not moving forward until I was ready. She never pushed me to move on; she was my silent rock that understood what I needed. I am eternally grateful to her!

She is now retired due to navicular issues, so she spends her days grazing and napping. She will never have to worry about a thing for the rest of her life, as she has a permanent spot in my heart and home.

Here at Horse Nation, we believe that the best therapists are our own horses. We love sharing the stories of special equines and the lessons horses have taught us — email yours to [email protected] to be featured in an upcoming edition of Back on Track “Horse Therapy.” Go Back on Track, and Go Riding!
