SpectraVET Classic Performance of the Week

This week: John Whitaker and Milton

Each week we spotlight a history-making moment by one of the greatest equine legends of all time — like Milton’s gold-medal winning round at the 1989 European Championships.

During their career together, John Whitaker piloted Milton to many international victories, including Individual Silver and Team Gold 1987 European Championships in St Gallen, Individual and Team Gold at the 1989 European Championships in Rotterdam, a win at the 1990 FEI World Cup Final in Dortmund, a win at the 1991 FEI World Cup Final in Gothenburg, and Individual Silver and Team Bronze 1990 World Equestrian Games in Stockholm.

Milton was the first horse outside the racing world to win more than £1 million in prize money. He was retired at the 1994 Olympia Horse Show and remains one of the most beloved horses in showjumping history. He passed away in 1999 and is buried on the Whitaker’s farm in Yorkshire.

Go Milton.
