SpectraVET Performance of the Week: Kristian Roberts Vaults to ‘Wicked Game’

The performance helped Kristian win the Men’s Individual Gold Division at the 2014 USEF/AVA Vaulting U.S. Championship last weekend.

The Championships were held from July 31 to August 3 at the Oregon Horse Center in Eugene and the bases were loaded with vaulters hoping for a spot on the U.S. squad for the swiftly-approaching World Equestrian Games.

Kristian, of Moss Beach, California, the top ranked individual male on the team short list won his division with a 7.564. His song choice, Chris Isaak’s sultry “Wicked Game” as covered by James Vincent McMorrow, suited the elegance and emotion of his performance. Kristian wrote in his blog for The Sport Horse earlier this year, “My freestyle is themed as if my heart was broken by a girl I’d fallen desperately in love with, and my music is quite fitting.”

The Individual Women’s Gold Division was won by Mary McCormick of Woodside, California. Mary mirrored Kristian’s position as the top ranked individual female on the short list and finished on a final score of 8.464. The two shared a horse in Sydney Frankel’s Sir Charles, lunged by Carolyn Bland.
