So… um… hmmm. A hermaphrodite horse, perhaps?
Many thanks to readers Presley, Josie, Melissa and Day for sending this one our way. I’m guessing this is just a case of some owner who mistakenly believes that a “stallion” is a breed, but while we’re on the subject of equine sex ed did you know that hermaphroditic and intersex horses do exist?
Kenneth Marcella, DVM explains in an article for veterinarynews.dvm360.com, “When a horse displays, either fully or partially, characteristics of both sexes it is called an ‘intersex.’ If both testicles and ovaries are present that individual is called a ‘true hermaphrodite.’ These individuals are not very common.”
But they’re out there. Here’s a case from 2012 in which an Australian harness racing mare was restricted to racing against the boys after she was found to be a hermaphrodite:
Well the more you know, the more you know. Moving right along, here’s another stallion ad from Kristi: “This horse is strictly for breading.”
Beautiful young stallion about two years old don’t want to get rid of him but unfortunately I don’t have the time to work him like he should be worked he’s so gorgeous that he could be used for strictly for breading if u wanted. serious people only. Only going to a good home
This ad from Yvonne is perfectly normal — but the unintentional paint double entendre is worth a chuckle:
This ad has already been flagged for removal but our blogger friend Snarky Rider managed to snag a screenshot before it disappeared and sent it our way:
