Icelandic Woman Turns 90, Goes Riding To Avoid Parties

In her defense, that’s how I’d want to celebrate my 90th birthday. Instead of spending time with family and friends, an Icelandic woman decided to go on a four-day horseback riding trip to avoid a party for her 90th birthday.

The Reykjavík Grapevine, an Icelandic newspaper, published these great quotes from Sigríður Sörensdóttir, who is described as “in excellent shape for her age”:

“I decided to go on this trip so I wouldn’t have to throw a party or participate in all that birthday hassle. Unfortunately, few are so lucky.

“I think that riding horses has played its part (in keeping me healthy); you spend so much time outside. You’re moving around a lot, there are a lot of things to do and your mind is always moving, thinking about something special.

“It gives life so much purpose, and the camaraderie is no small thing either.”

Sounds like Sigríður knows what’s up. She’s also pretty hardcore for a 90-year-old woman. She already has another 10-day riding trip planned for July. Get it, girl. After all, they say age is just a number.
