Cross-country isn't supposed to be an “aquatic sport,” but back in the day it sometimes seemed like one!
Bernie Traurig, narrator of this fascinating video, writes, “The water obstacle is always a challenging part of any cross country course. Thankfully as the sport has evolved we've seen it become safer and more a test of ridability than a survival test. Check out this shocking and entertaining footage of what the water obstacle was like at the Berlin Olympics in 1936 and the 1964 Olympic Trials in Gladstone, NJ, where it looks more like an aquatic sport than an equestrian one!!”
Wow, scary old-fashioned water jumps… that's one way to keep your horse watered down!
