In the News: ‘Prosthetic leg saves injured horse’s life’

That’s the headline from a story out of Dickinson, Texas, about a horse whose new leg is giving him a new lease on life.

Indio, a 16-year-old Quarter Horse stallion, had a portion of his rear leg amputated after kicking through a metal wall and severing his hoof.

Veterinarian Rick Redden performed the surgery, from which Indio is recovering very well.

“He’s the type of horse you really can do this kind of operation on because he has the will to live,” said Equine Recovery Center co-founder Steve Saltzmann.
