News: ’13 horses running in world’s richest horse race’

That’s the headline from a Huffington Post article about the upcoming Dubai World Cup, to be held this weekend.

Reads the story, “A Kentucky Derby winner, a two-time Eclipse Award-winning filly and the defending champion headline a standout international field of 13 entered for Saturday’s $10 million Dubai World Cup – the world’s richest horse race.”

Three American horses are entered in the race: Champion mare Royal Delta, former Kentucky Derby winner Animal Kingdom, and Dullahan, who placed 3rd in the Kentucky Derby and 5th in the Belmont last year.

The early favorite is Hunter’s Light, who comes from the stables of Sheik Mohammed.

It ought to be one heck of a race, and entertaining to boot–by all appearances the Dubai World Cup appears to be the Superbowl of horse races.
