Thursday Morning Feed from Fleeceworks

Life with horses is trying, and everyone can use a dose of inspiration from time to time. Hence the beginning of “Fleeceworks Team Talk.”

Each Wednesday will be Fleeceworks’ day to share stories, words of wisdom and training tips from Team Fleeceworks Riders. Endurance rider Lucian Spataro’s blog gets the series started.

Lucian is a phenomenal equestrian, and a pretty amazing guy in general. In 1989 he  embarked on a record-breaking ocean-to-ocean journey to raise awareness of rainforest protection, riding a team of Arabian horses from Los Angeles to Chesapeake Bay–2,963 miles in 150 days. This event is recounted in his book The Long Ride, published in 2011.

Reads his website, “Spataro rode through the heat of the western desert, and the humidity and driving rains of the Midwest, arriving in the East in time to take in the splendid fall foliage. In the process, the record for a cross-country ride not only fell, but was cut in half. It’s an extraordinary story of endurance and dedication to a cause we should all care about.”
