Oh $h!t: Your most humiliating moments, captured on film

Today’s “Oh $h!t” moment is brought to you by reader Laura and her “evil” pony Amelia. The scene of the crime is Waredaca H.T., where Amelia decided to dispose of her rider and split town.

I’ll let Laura explain:

This took place at my first event at Waredaca in Maryland in 2009. This pony, Amelia, was one of those evil ones–you all know what I’m talking about. Anyway, we were out on cross country and had gone clear in stadium. All of a sudden, when we were halfway through the course and nowhere near a jump, Amelia had a little temper tantrum and promptly decided that she could go no further. To this day I’m not exactly sure what happened, but I got thrown forward and flipped over her shoulder. Somehow on the way down, I got a really nasty black eye, too! I believe my face collided with hers at some point.

Anyway, it was a really embarrassing experience. I had to be driven back to the start box since we were so far out, and she ran full speed back towards the beginning. I can only imagine what the horse and rider who followed me on the course must have thought! My trainer and friends who were showing with me were there to catch her, and I’m sure there was the always awkward ‘loose horse!’ announcement over the intercom. Then, a few days later, I found these pictures on the internet. Although I was mortified then, it’s far enough in the past that I can laugh about it now. Enjoy!

Thank you for the submission–glad you can laugh about it in hindsight! A naughty pony indeed.

Laura, it’s a Horse Nation tradition to dedicate a song for each “Oh $h!t” submission we publish. In Amelia’s case, we thought Bon Jovi’s “Runaway” seemed an appropriate choice.

This one goes out to you:
