Equine Planking: A new contest presented by HN & SmartPak

Planking, a bizarre phenomenon that swept the internet last year, has officially invaded Horse Nation. Enter our planking photo contest for your chance to win a SmartPak gift card!

Planking, for the uninitiated, is defined by Wikipedia as “an activity consisting of lying face down in an unusual or incongruous location. Both hands must touch the sides of the body and having a photograph of the participant taken and posted on the Internet is an integral part of the game. Players compete to find the most unusual and original location in which to play. The term planking refers to mimicking a wooden plank. Rigidity of the body must be maintained to constitute good planking.” If you need a visual, many thousand examples are only a Google image search away.

The concept of equine planking, however, was only recently brought to our attention via a Twitter post from British event rider Jay Halim (@JayTigerHalim) containing the picture above. (Thanks to EN’s Samantha for the tip!) Anyway, it was just weird enough to be right up HN’s alley.

Here are the contest rules:

There are no rules. Just send us your best equine planking photos, whether taken on a horse or elsewhere (think: jumps, around the barn, etc.), by midnight next Sunday, April 1. Oh, and if you’re on a horse, PLEASE wear your helmet. A group of finalists will be selected by bunny jury, and then we’ll put it to the people for a vote. Clear as mud? Email entries to: [email protected].

Until then, happy planking!
