Let’s Discuss: How’s this motherhood thing going to impact my riding

Victoria Smith wants to have a baby, eventually, but she doesn’t want to give up her horse life. Anyone have any advice on how to balance the two?

From Victoria:

As a newlywed, I am constantly hearing, “When are y’all going to have children?” “How will you keep your horse when you have a baby?!”

Easy… I HAVE to keep my horse–if I don’t I am sure I will lose my mind.

We all need that time to ourselves, whether it be at the gym, watching TV, or for us crazy horse people, being at the barn.  My husband and I are constantly arguing back and forth about our unborn child having a pony when he/she turns 2.  For me, there is no question I will keep my horse and find a mini pony for my kid.  For some reason, I feel like riding with my child will be the most gratifying feeling in the world.  Now, in order to keep my horse and have a pony, I might have to do some serious bargaining (maybe working off board for the pony? Who knows!) but I’m sure I will figure something out.

For all you horse mom’s out there, how do you balance kids and horses?
