Video: Seeing For Yourself

Even if this video is a bit staged, we can’t help but grin.

If you’ve been riding for any amount of time — one lesson to an entire lifetime — you’ve probably heard the question “doesn’t the horse do all the work?” at least once. And yes, we get how it looks to an observer. Often the whole point of most of our disciplines is to make it look like we’re doing nothing at all to create a smooth, harmonious ride… when in reality, we all know exactly how much work it is on the part of the rider.

And yes, we can respond to this question in a number of ways. We can try to point out a few examples to these casual observers, maybe even argue with them, but the truth is that we’ll never win. It’s nearly as hard as riding in the first place to explain exactly why horseback riding is a challenge without driving our listeners batty.

So sometimes, the best defense is a good offense.

Okay, it might have been a little staged… but that doesn’t mean that we’re not laughing right along.

Go riding!
