Like an airvest… for your head

Two Swedish designers have invented an “invisible helmet” for bicyclists. The Hovding is a collar that inflates when you become detached from your bike, and it’s supposed to be three times safer than a helmet. Could a similar concept work for riding?

Wow! Seems like it could work in the equestrian world as well.

You’re welcome for the tip! I’m glad you’re sharing this info… and yes, Debbie, I was thinking the same thing. Yay for brain safety! :)

So theoretically you could still gallop around and “feel the wind in your hair” and not kill yourself? As long as you are wearing a slightly-hipster-looking collar. I like this idea–they can come in either Baker plaid or bandana print for english and western riders ;)
As a non-equine aside I am a big fan of the “women can invent things” message of the first video :)

Except for the fact these things open with a bang, which could spook horses and cause avoidable emergencies.

Hopefully there already was an emergency, if you were on the ground. Either that or you’d have to have an exceptionally unsteady seat (or maybe you’d be taking a nap? :)
