Hey! It’s the weekend

And a long, luxurious Memorial Day weekend to boot. Do you have any big plans?

Me, I’m writing this from a hotel room in Lexington, Kentucky. It’s Friday night and, after a long day at the horse show, I’m sticky, stinky, sunburned and totally in my element.

I think sometimes about normal people, and the normal people things they like to do. This weekend, for instance, popular activities include backyard barbecues, afternoons on the lake, maybe some working in the yard, maybe some sleeping in.

Here in Horse Nation, however, our idea of a good time is a little different. It may entail waking up at 5 a.m. to prepare for a horse show, or a full-day trail ride with friends, or paying some trainer good money to yell at us as we trot around the ring. Maybe it just means catching up on some mowing around the farm.

The choices we make are the ones that, rational or not, fulfill us.

Do what fulfills you. Go riding.
