Tuesday Morning Feed from Dubarry: Mark Kyle’s Mighty Badminton Tumble

The Irish are the toughest in the world! Watch the video of this unbelievable fall, from which both horse and rider emerged virtually unscathed.

As we mentioned yesterday, this year’s Badminton XC course was toughest in recent memory. Between the mud, the rain and a thoroughly grueling track, it rewarded the toughest of the tough — and no one is tougher than the Irish.

There were seven Irish starters — Mark Kyle with Coolio, Austin O’Connor with Ringwood Mississippi, Capt. Geoff Curran with Shanaclough Crecora, Sarah Ennis with Sugar Brown Babe, Joseph Murphy with Sportsfield Othello, Jim Newsam with Magennis and Clare Abbott with Euro Prince. All of the horses were of the Irish Sport Horse breed, which currently sits atop the World Breeding Federation for Sport Horses (WBFSH) Eventing Studbook rankings.

Only 35 out of 78 riders made it around the course, including four Irish competitors. Austin O’Connor and Ringwood Mississippi held the top spot, moving up from 63rd after dressage to finish in 15th, adding cross-country time penalties and just one rail in show-jumping to his score. [Full results] Check out this video of Austin, sounding quite breathless after his fantastic cross-country round in an interview with IrishHorse.TV.

Unfortunately, the luck of the Irish ran out for Mark Kyle, who came a cropper at the troublesome Mound jump.

Unbelievably, the pair got up and walked off the course unhurt. No one is built tougher than the Irish, and we look forward to seeing them back on course soon!

Speaking of Irish tough, Dubarry Boots are the sturdiest around. Features include waterproof, breathable GORE-TEX® lining, DryFast–DrySoft™ leather and duo compound PU and Rubber sole, directly injected onto the upper. For a boot, that’s as hardworking as you are, choose Dubarry!
