SpectraVET Performance of the Week: Game On Dude & Mike Smith

It was a showdown between three old rivals at the 2014 Santa Anita Handicap on Saturday, but the veteran 7-year-old got his due in the end.

Sally Spickard’s recap from Eventing Nation:

It’s so refreshing to see racehorses who are able to continue competing past their three year old seasons; it seems to be a rarity now, which makes the ones who stick around that much more special. Enter Game On Dude, a seven-year-old gelding by Awesome Again out of Wordly Pleasure, has enjoyed a remarkable career under the tutelage of Bob Baffert. This weekend, Game On Dude won his third Santa Anita Handicap, a new record, and also broke the stakes record set by Affirmed in 1979 with his time of 1:58:17.  Game On Dude beat out old rivals Will Take Charge and Mucho Macho Man, although the far turn battle was thick among the three horses.

To watch this horse run is awe inspiring. His acceleration alone is something you have to see to believe, and the rides that current jockey Mike Smith gives him seem to work very well.”
