SpectraVET Classic Performance of the Week

Trotting’s biggest race, the Hambletonian, is taking place this weekend at NJ’s Meadowlands Racetrack. Let’s rewind to superhorse Muscle Hill’s record-breaking 2009 win.

As the first race of the U.S. Trotting Triple Crown, the Hambletonian is held annually for 3-year-old Standardbreds. It is the world’s richest harness race with $1 million at stake.

Driven by Brian Sears and trained by Greg Peck, Muscle Hill holds the record for the race’s fastest time, 1 minute and 50.1 seconds. This Horse of the Year was unbeatable as a 3-year-old in 2009; in addition to the Hambletonian, he won the Canadian Trotting Classic, the World Trotting Derby, the Kentucky Futurity and the Breeders Crown. Muscle Hill was then retired to stud with $3.2 in career earnings, having won his last 20 consecutive starts.

Here is the video of his 2009 Hambletonian victory.
