Video du Jour: The Queen – A Passion for Horses

Away from the demands of royal duty, the Queen’s private passion is for the world of horses. Check out this excerpt from a new BBC documentary on the subject.

Presented by Clare Balding, the film charts the Queen’s enduring relationship with horses and an astonishing 65-year career as one of Britain’s leading breeders.

Next weekend she will be at Epsom for the Derby, which she has tried to win nine times but never succeeded–her horse, Carlton House, came third in 2011.

The film gains behind-the-scenes access to the Queen as she tries to breed a racehorse capable of winning a race like the Derby. It also has footage of the Queen as a young princess riding her first pony, Peggy.

The Queen – A Passion for Horses is now available to be watched on the BBC iPlayer.
