Sunday Wine Tasting: ‘Equestrian Wine Tours’

Calling all you Pinot Noir junkies out there in Horse Nation–how about a wine tour of Oregon’s Willamette Valley, Pinot capitol of the United States… on horseback?

I know, it sounds too good to be true, but it’s for real.

Jack Price Stables, located in the heart of Oregon country, offers guided horseback wine tastings. Equestrian Wine Tours is the brainchild of Tennessee Walking Horse enthusiast Jack Price and his wife, Shirley, who have lived in the area for over 30 years.

Wine-tasters have the option of traveling by carriage or horseback, with typical tours lasting about two hours (although they can be arranged to last up to eight hours to accommodate even the most dedicated winos). There are over 300 wineries in the region, and tours typically weave their way through a handful of them, including Winter’s Hill Vineyard, White Rose Estate, Stoller Vineyards, Vista Hills Winery, Sokol Blosser Winery and Durant Vineyards. Highlights of the tours include spectacular vistas, gourmet snacks and, of course, a variety of sipping opportunities.
