Fantasy Farm Thursday: $23.5 Million Sugar Maple Farm

A horse property so sweet it will make your teeth hurt! Dive in to this pristine Mid-Atlantic paradise with all the horsey spaces, gorgeous grounds and manor living you could ever want.

Sugar Maple Farm is every bit as delicious as it sounds. Like a warm homemade cinnamon bun right out the oven with warm gooey icing melting into the crevices of buttery cinnamon goodness — only instead of icing, it’s secluded pasture and forest, and instead of cinnamon, it’s miles of white-fence paddocks and linden trees. And there aren’t any cherries in this analogy, but pretend there are, because in this case, the cherry on top is a multi-million dollar Georgian-style manor and multiple barns that will knock your socks off.

The Property

Less than two hours from The Big Apple, Sugar Maple Farm is the best of two iconic American cultures: The sprawling, pastoral southern plantations of the deep south, and the spectacular landscapes and seasons of the Mid Atlantic. The estate has magnificent matured trees, stunning water features, and plenty of in-house recreation, like a tennis court and a putting green. For the horses, there is more than 450 acres of pasture, forest, and secluded trails.

The Horse Facilities

This is no hobby farm, that’s for certain. The property boasts a shocking number of equine amenities, including six barns for a total of 94 stalls: a receiving barn, a stallion barn, two broodmare barns, a FillyWoods barn (I haven’t a clue what that is, but I want it), and a yearling barn. It’s an ideal location for a breeding operation, which also sounds like a lovely way to pay the bills!  But if you’re not looking for a breeding operation, there’s also beautiful sand and turf arenas, plenty of trails, and all the room in the world to continue adding equine infrastructure.

The Residence

The house is a jewel among jewels. From the entertaining terraces and gardens to the half-court basketball court; from the indoor pool and full spa to the formal wood-soaked den; and of course, a wine cellar. (Every millionaire horse lover needs a wine cellar, am I am right? And not boxed wine, guys. REAL WINE. IN BOTTLES AND EVERYTHING.) The home is exquisitely appointed with the best materials in the classical Georgian style, which is positively immune to interior trends. Homes like this will always stand the test of time when it comes to style and design.

Additional Outbuildings

Finally, the home is also flanked by additional structures necessary to keep property of this size a well-oiled machine: A 2-bedroom guesthouse with service kitchen, another 2-bedroom home for staff quarters, a Victorian residence with offices and apartments, and other additional living and work spaces throughout. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: We here at Horse Nation are always happy to take one of those apartments off your hands to use as our headquarters if you ever find yourself with too many empty living quarters and not enough horse enthusiasts with excellent grammar. We could probably be talked into mucking stalls once in awhile, too.
