Entries Now Open For Horse Nation Blogger Contest!

Horseback writers of the world, this is your moment: Horse Nation is seeking to expand its writing team!

Citizens of Horse Nation, the last time we ran an open blogger contest was 2013. Where do the years go? We’re looking for fresh new voices to join the Horse Nation team, arguably the most ridiculous, fun-loving pirate crew of equestrian writers on the internet — and if you’ve always felt like you had plenty to say on the insanity we call horse life, now is your time to come aboard!

It may surprise some of you to know that I started at Horse Nation as a weekly volunteer blogger — I penned a column called “In My Boots” chock-full of my random musings on the western world. From there, I transitioned onto the freelance team, and that role quickly morphed into my current full-time job as Horse Nation’s managing editor. Jumper Nation’s managing editor Meagan DeLisle started much the same way; most of our current freelance rockstars all started out as weekly bloggers. There is no limit to how far you can go.

And that’s why we’re excited to open up our second-ever blogger contest!

The requirements: The ideal contestant has a passion for horses, a way with words, and a willingness to contribute 1-2 posts for Horse Nation each week.

Who is eligible? Anyone! No prior experience is necessary. Horse Nation is proud to be “undisciplined,” which means that we have readers all over the world from every walk of horse life out there.

What’s in it for me? Internet fame and glory, and the platform for you to launch your writing career. While this is not a paid position right off the bat, Horse Nation does hire almost exclusively from its pool of contributing bloggers (see examples above!)

How do I apply? Your Round 1 entries will include a short bio (name, age, background, character-defining qualities, embarrassing tidbits) and a 300-600 word original sample of your best work in the Horse Nation style — personal essays, listicles, GIFs… anything goes! Entries will be judged on their ability to keep our panel of judges wildly entertained. Finalists will be narrowed down in subsequent rounds.

Entries are due on Friday, August 31 at midnight ET. Email your entry to [email protected] with the subject line “HN Blogger Contest Entry.”

Good luck, and go riding!
